One of the biggest concerns for parents moving with their children to another country is the level and standard of the educational system within the country as well as the standard and reputation of the local schools.

Poland's system consists of five stages: preschool, primary school, lower secondary school, upper secondary school and higher education. At the end of secondary education students can take a standardized national examination -- egzamin dojrzałości matura – and receive a maturity certificate. Education is compulsory in Poland from the age of 6 until 18.

Krakow has a total of 145 primary schools, 99 lower secondary schools, 161 upper secondary schools and 15 institutes of higher education. The city also contains a number of schools specifically orientated to provide a high Standard of education for children of expats. These schools include: The British International School of Krakow and The International School of Krakow.
