Essentials.
As an employed or self-employed resident of Poland you are covered by a mandatory health insurance that extends to spouses and children. The state finances health insurance and residents receive free medical services.
Upon presentation of the European Health Insurance Card, visitors from EEA countries are entitled to the same benefits as residents. Conversely, visitors from non EEA countries are expected to pay for health care, medical treatment and dental procedures in Poland.
However, if you plan on living in Poland for an extended period of time, you will need to join the national system. If you are self-employed it is essential to organise private health insurance.
