Nutrition.

Beer, vodka, sausage, pierogies and lots of pork might not be your image of a healthy diet but in comparison to most western Europeans who stuff themselves with fizzy drinks, chocolate, crisps, café lattes and sandwiches from sandwich bars, Poland’s nutritional habits are quite good.

Under communist rule fizzy drinks, crisps and chocolate were seen as products of capitalism and were forbidden. Although the country’s break from communism has led to a change in their diets, old habits die hard. Typically, Poles eat 4 times a day and they make their own sandwiches for work and school. Vegetables are smaller than in British supermarkets because they are mostly grown naturally, in season and without pesticides. Food is usually cooked fresh and supermarket ready meals such as frozen pizza and lasagne are expensive.

Yes it’s true, the Polish do like their beer, vodka, sausage and pork but on the whole their diet remains healthy and balanced.
