Krakow’s Academy of Fine Arts was established in 1818 as a subdivision of Jagiellonian University.
In 1873 the division split from UJ and established itself as an independent institution under the direction of the esteemed painter Jan Matejko. Famous Polish painters such as Stanislawski, Wyczolkowski, Mehoffer, Wyspianski and Pankiewicz all lectured at the academy.
100 years after its establishment, the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow was renamed after its founder – Jan Matejko. Today the institute offers qualifications in Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Arts, Art Conservation and Art History.
