Citizens from EU member states, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein can enter and stay in Poland, for up to three months, if they carry a valid passport or ID card. After a three month stay, it is obligatory for citizens of EEA countries to obtain a Residency Registration Certificate. To apply for this certificate in Krakow you must contact the Voivode of the Malopolska Voivodeship.

If an individual wishes to stay a duration of 3-12 months for educational or employment purposes then they require a Temporary Residence Permit. Individuals planning to work in Poland for more than 12 months are required to obtain a Residence Permit which is granted for a period of 5 years. Both these permits are issued under the condition that the applicant has sufficient resources to live in Poland without burdening the social security system.

An EEA citizen will receive a Residency Registration Certificate once they have completed the application procedure for registration. If a family member is not a citizen of an EEA country they will be issued with a “residence document“ and they have the right to apply for an EU Family Member Card.

If you are not an EEA citizen then you are required to obtain a visa before arrival in Poland. It is not permitted to stay longer than the amount of time stated on the visa. If you wish to prolong your stay you are required to apply for a residence permit for a determined period of time, a permit to settle or an EC long-term residence permit.
