At the bank of the Vistula river, the Manggha Centre is a veritable nod to all things Japanese. As a branch of the National Museum in Krakow, the centre was specifically built to house the city's collection of old Japanese art – much of which belonged to the Feliks Jasienski collection which was donated to the Museum in 1920.
Designed by the celebrated architect Arata Isozaki, the wavy roof of the building mirrors the sea in old Japanese paintings. Japanese culture, art, architecture and technology are celebrated in the fine collection of paintings, woodcarvings, ornate weaponry and even robots on display.
Moreover, the centre organises language lessons, lectures on Japanese culture, theatre performances, as well as, lessons in tea brewing and Ikebana.
