Nowa Huta Museum.

Nowa Huta is a stark contrast to Krakow's romantic, mysterious, and oft considered bourgeois old town. A model of Stalinsim, the town was created as a present to the working people of Poland in 1949.

The New Steel Mill or Nowa Huta provided jobs and homes for thousands of working class Polish inhabiting the surrounding areas of Krakow. In reality Nowa Huta was an instrument of propaganda that portrayed happy steel workers, living in new apartments, in a newly created industrial town.

The museum, documenting the history of the Nowa Huta quarter, is a division of the Historical Museum of Krakow. Not only does it contain temporary exhibitions relating to this fascinating district, it also hosts lectures, lessons and academic conferences on its historical relevance.
