Cycling.
If walking is not your thing – rent a bike! Although cycling in Krakow city is never easy, especially during rush hour, it is still a healthy way of getting to see the sights. On two wheels you will be able to enjoy the main Market Square, St. Mary’s Basilica, Cloth Hall, Wawel Castle, the buildings of Jagiellonian University and the Jewish Quarters.
This route can also take you through the green Planty gardens and along the banks of the Vistula river. However, if you do decide to rent a bicycle it is much more enjoyable to get out of the congested city and enjoy the freedom of open space along riverside cycle paths as well as through lush valleys and wooded forest areas.
Cyclists of all levels will appreciate the wide variety of paths and routes available in the Krakow area. The most attractive one day trips will take you to: Ojcow National Park and Pieskowa Skała Castle, Kryspinow lake and the Niepolomice Forest. From these three destinations cyclists have the opportunity to explore the local area even further. Other popular biking destinations from Krakow include: Wolski Forest, Tyniec Abbey, Wieliczka salt mine and Dlubnia River Valley.
For the more adventurous, the 362km Amber Trail – covering the distance from Krakow to Budapest – is certainly more challenging than a spin around the city. Winding through Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, this arduous cyclist path follows the ancient trade route for Amber through spectacular valleys, rural villages, over the Tatras and along the Danube.
